This was the second time in two weeks I had been admitted to labor and delivery for dehydration. Once I got settled and hooked up to the baby monitors, they were ready to put my IV in. It was no fun. The first nurse called three other nurses before they finally got my IV in the right place on the third try.
I began having contractions that were too small to be picked up on the monitor... but I was feeling them. I was 36 weeks and 5 days along and I really wasn't supposed to be having this many contractions at one time. Despite the fact that I knew I wasn't going into labor and I wasn't in real pain, I really felt the need to stress to them what my body was doing.
I already felt ridiculous enough having to come back for more fluids because I hadn't had enough water, but I felt even worse when she looked at me like I was crazy every time I talked about how I felt. After five hours, four nurses, three pokes, two bags of fluids, and one 28 oz glass of water... I was rehydrated!
Man! I am so glad we don't have to go through this in communication with our Heavenly Father every time we get spiritually dry and thirsty. There are days when I wake up and realize I haven't read His word, I haven't praised Him for all of His many blessings in my life. These are the days that are miraculous, because like a magnet He draws me to His side and restores me.
"Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then I will go to the alter of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God." (Psalm 43:3)
"O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you." (Psalm 63:1)
When I've set out to do what I have been called to do- teach my children, love my family and others, and tackle everyday tasks- that same grace flows through me.
"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. By this he means (THE SPIRIT) whom those who believe will receive." (John 7:37)
His grace is sufficient for you and me!
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." (Matthew 5:6)
