The Little Things

One day in my determination to save money I spent some time in prayer.  That's right... I spent some time in prayer asking the Lord to give me wisdom in my kitchen.  I was completely blank on what to make for lunch.  My husband was asleep in our bedroom with a stomach bug and I was pregnant and starving for something different and yummy!  Sometimes I get into these motivated moods to please my husband... and this was one of those times.  It was also one of those weeks when we simply could not afford to go out to eat and spend $40 bucks to feed our family of 4.  I simply asked the Lord for a new recipe... but I had to be able to use what I already had... He knew that.

As I continued to let the Lord know how special I wanted this food to be, my wheels began turning.  I pulled the frozen chicken breasts out of the freezer, and began putting together what is now my husband's favorite at-home meal.  We call it "Jen's Chicken Fajita Sandwiches".  The aroma of grilled chicken, garlic, and onion filled the house as a masterpiece was created.  I say that because once I got it put together it looked almost gourmet and tasted even better.  We were amazed.

I made my husband a plate and he sat up in bed with what strength he could muster.  Not only did he eat one of the sandwiches and the homemade onion rings, but he ate two!

I am writing this not to give myself credit, but because I want to testify of the Lord's love for us.  I believe that the Lord wants us to be satisfied and content.  But what I love most about this experience is that I felt the Lord's presence with me in the kitchen that day.  The truth is that he absolutely loves it when we invite Him into our daily tasks and the small details of our day.  He cares about the little things... and He is powerful to meet our needs and give us the desire of our hearts.

"A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work.  This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without Him, who can eat or find enjoyment?  To the man who pleases Him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness..."
