This is my child that usually responds with "Sugar! That's what I want for dinner!", and then chuckles because he knows I am not pleased. Today we were making lunch and he went to the pantry and found the "whole grain pasta". He said, "Look mom, whole grains!". We spent about two hours today talking about our body and how food is digested. Then we talked about the food that we put into our bodies and I taught him how to read food labels and what we need and don't need in our diets. I am so proud of him for picking up on these key truths so quickly. This will help him in the future. He has literally been addicted to sweets since an early age. He craves sugar and he finds himself thinking about it all the time as do so many kids. They can't wait until their next piece of candy! This goes for my little four year old as well. But today they were informed. So now even at their young age they can begin to choose healthier foods to put into their bodies.
This is so important, I just couldn't be more excited. It goes to show you how just a little education and excitement and a few colored print outs can help your child be healthier by thinking healthier. If they start now with their knowledge of food and the way it affects their body, they will remember it when they get older. Now I have a little accountability partner to keep my own eating in check! It's been a blessed day, for sure.
