(In an earlier blog post, I stated that I wanted to add the topic of "Nutrition" into our curriculum.
Well, I have found the perfect link to accomplish this task.)
As we are learning about how our bodies work and the miracles that occur, we are also including our study of "Nutrition". My favorite link is below to help you teach your children about the importance of the food that we choose to put into our bodies. It has tons of content including free worksheet downloads, learning games, and articles to inform you and your child what we all need to do to have a "balanced diet" each day.
In our culture it may seem impossible or overwhelming to cut out the processed and sugary foods and drinks. But trying and doing your best is better than not doing anything at all and allowing our children to grow up uninformed. I am the first to admit the struggle our family has in this area. In our busy lifestyle its easy to choose the quickest and easiest thing. If you have a favorite, healthy, family meal... PLEASE share it with us! We would love to see what you're whipping up in your kitchen! Just post your recipe or story in the comment box below. Can't wait to get some new ideas!

I was inspired by Jessica Seinfelds book Diceptively Delicious, I don't go to the same lengths to steam and purée but I grate or run things through the food processor to finely chop usually spinach and carrots. I'll 'hide' them in sauces, usually marinara or taco soup really anything with bold enough flavor no one notices the change but they reap the benefits nutritionally.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love this idea of hiding the "good stuff". I am hoping to steam and puree Eli's baby food. We will see how that goes. But with baby food marked $1.00 per jar I am happy to try and give him fresher foods with maybe more nutrients and save money by feeding him what we are eating. I have never hidden nutrient-rich veggies in my food, but I have heard of it. I just haven't done it yet. Thanks for sharing!
