For the past four months my husband and I have been on a journey to make permanent lifestyle changes by adjusting our weekly meal plans to include only clean foods. There are a few foods and drinks we have cut out completely. We thought this decision might be detrimental to our mental state, in the sense that we might lose our minds if we didn’t have these certain foods (like Dr. Pepper, Sweet tea, fried chicken, and french fries...Oh my! French fries!). But I am happy to announce that we have survived, WE LOVE IT, and we have come out stronger.
We no longer have iced sweet tea in our refrigerator. Whaaat... We are from deep East Texas where iced tea is a necessity and the sugar content must be high in order for it to be a staple in your kitchen. But we just stopped making tea altogether. I personally cannot believe we drink water with every meal and even in between meals. Not only that, but my kids drink water. This is a huge accomplishment for our family. We lived on sugary teas, sodas, and the kids' favorite... Kool-Aid. But we have overcome! I would like to add in some hot teas for morning energy and night time to wind down.I bought the kids a couple of water bottles to take with them when we go places. I have one as well. We stay active by going to the gym at least every other day. I recently went to my first yoga class. When they turned the lights off and started dragging in big paper lanterns, I knew I was hooked!

My husband bought me a new pair of running shoes.
My first pair of running shoes ever! It felt good to get a reward for my hard work. I have never been an athlete, but a close friend told me "There is an athlete in all of us."
I hope you can find encouragement in this. If our family of junk food junkies can make this change, then you can too. I have discovered a few new recipes that I love. I will be posting them soon.
